SUMMARY:FCCC In-person Event: Is China Ready For A Return Bout With Trump? With Arthur Kroeber
DESCRIPTION:China is struggling to sustain economic growth amid a property market collapse\, burgeoning local government debt\, and weak consumer demand. Stimulus policies put in place since September may stabilize the economy but are unlikely to re-ignite growth. At the same time\, China’s technology industries are poised to dominate more global markets\, and the trade surplus keeps rising. But China’s export stars are menaced by Donald Trump\, who has promised to slap tariffs of 60% or more on Chinese imports in his second term. How serious are Trump’s threats to decouple the US and Chinese economies\, and how well is China positioned to respond to a second round of trade wars? \n\nAbout our speaker: Arthur Kroeber is the founder of the Gavekal Dragonomics economic research service\, and author of China’s Economy: What Everyone Needs to Know.
