SUMMARY:FCCC In-person Talk. Queer China
DESCRIPTION:Always wondered what it is like to be queer in China today? Our speaker\, a Chinese national who prefers not to be named here\, is an active member of the queer community with a long and rich experience in protecting queer rights\, in organising activities for queers and in fostering a better understanding of this community in China. He has an extensive network inside and outside of China. \nHe will talk about the situation for queer people in China today. Is it\, for instance\, easier for young people to come out of the closet today than it was ten years ago? How many people actually tell their parents they are queer? What happens if you come out at your workplace? \nAlso discussed will be how the tolerance of the government for NGO’s active in this field has diminished in recent years\, and what that has meant for the community. How do you protect your rights under such circumstances? What is still possible and where do you focus on? \nOffline only
