SUMMARY:Renewal Season 2023
DESCRIPTION:RENEW HERE \nThank you for being a member of the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of China in 2022. We very\nmuch appreciate your support and we hope your FCCC-membership has been valuable to you\nboth socially and professionally.\n\nThrough the adversity we all face\, we have continued to provide support and guidance\, to share\nknowledge\, and to raise awareness of the difficult working conditions our community faces. We\nheld speaker events (and happily some even in person again)\, a fabulous summer party\, and\nother social gatherings and regularly spoken up on media freedoms issues in China.\n\nWe would like to thank you for your support in 2022 and to ask you to renew your support for our\ncommunity in 2023. Your FCCC membership ends on December 31st\, which means now is the\ntime to renew. Unfortunately\, there is every reason to believe that the coming year will also be\nchallenging and the Club’s activities remain as important as ever – your Club needs you!\n\nWe ask that you renew as early as possible\, as this allows us to plan for next year and organize\neven more speaker events and social gatherings. As a bonus\, all those who renew before\nDecember 15th will be entered into an early bird raffle to win six bottles of the finest wine\navailable to the Club.\nWith kind regards\,  \nFCCC Board

SUMMARY:FCCC Talk: The reform and opening era is over. What comes next?
DESCRIPTION:With the conclusion of the 20th Party Congress\, it is more clear than ever that the “reform and opening” era is now over. All of the core political\, economic\, and social aspects of the reform and opening policies have been rolled back or abandoned altogether. Where does that leave the CCP\, and where is it going next? \nAbout our speaker: Bruce Dickson is professor of political science and international affairs at the George Washington University. His most recent book is The Party and the People: Chinese Politics in the 21st Century (Princeton University Press\, 2021).

SUMMARY:FCCC Online Talk: Chip War: The US-China Rivalry over Semiconductors
DESCRIPTION: Why are semiconductors a critical area of contestation between China and the United States? Today\, China spends as much money importing chips as it does importing oil\, while the U.S. is trying to cut off access to the most advanced chips and chipmaking tools. Both countries’ militaries realize that the future of military power will depend on access to the most advanced chips. \nAbout our speaker: Chris Miller is associate professor at the Fletcher School and author of Chip War: The Fight for the World’s Most Critical Technology  (Scribner\, 2022).
