World politics are back to normal. Unfortunately, normality means multipolarity: a challenging powerplay between currently four great powers, who cooperate and compete at the same time – the US, China, Russia, and Europe. How each of these looks at the world will determine the future of world politics. Can they cooperate and share power, or will they compete and grab more power at each other’s expense. The EU has an important stabilising role to play. It has the instruments and the means – does it have the will?

Prof. Dr. Sven Biscop read political sciences at Ghent University, where he also obtained his PhD, and where today he is a Professor, teaching strategy and the foreign policies of Belgium and the EU. In addition, he is the Director of the Europe in the World Programme at the Egmont – Royal Institute for International Relations in Brussels, the think-tank associated with the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He is also a regular speaker at the Royal Military Academy in Brussels and at various staff colleges in Europe and America, as well as at the People’s University of China in Beijing, where he is a Senior Research Associate
