Technologies will dominate future superpower competition in the economic, diplomatic and military areas. Europe is falling behind in creating and, more critical, implementing and scaling disruptive technologie. Nationally isolated programs fail to produce the traction necessary to secure a take, and is a major risk for its existing industries. The Joint European Disruptive Initiative proposed a European Agency for Disruptive Innovation with an entrepreneurial organization, closely modelled after the successful American DARPA.

André Loesekrug-Pietri, French-German, held leadership positions in private equity, government, industry and as an entrepreneur. Starting as assistant to the CEO of Aerospatiale-Airbus, he then spent 15 years in private equity and venture capital, including 10 years with China, investing in European companies with global ambitions (including the landmark Club Med and Bang & Olufsen deals). In 2017, he paused from the private sector to become Special Advisor to the French Minister of Defence, responsible in particular for European Defence policy as well as technology and innovation.  He is currently speaker of the Joint European Disruptive Initiative (JEDI), aiming to accelerate Europe’s leadership in disruptive innovations. Graduate from HEC and from Harvard Kennedy School, he attended Sup-Aero aerospace engineering school. He has been named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum (Davos) and is member of the International Advisory Board of Beijing Jiaotong University. Twitter @andrepietri
