    About the speaker:
    Among other positions, Jean-Paul Wiest is currently research director of the Beijing Center for Chinese Studies at the University for International Business and Economics and distinguished fellow of the Ricci Institute at the University of San Francisco. He was founder and research director for 7 years of the Center for Mission Research and Study at Maryknoll, USA.He received an M.A. and Ph.D. in Chinese History from the University of Washington in Seattle, and an M.A. from the Jesuit Faculty of Theology in Louvain, Belgium.
    A frequent lecturer and writer on topics related to Catholics in China, he is author of “The Catholic Church in Modern China, Perspectives (1993)”, which presents a comprehensive view of the contemporary situation by giving voice to all parties in the Chinese Catholic Church. Dr. Wiest has been a resident of China since 1998.
