Maria will introduce the key themes from her recent book “Chinese Soft Power”, including how China’s visions differ from those of the West, and how soft power is implemented across key public diplomacy channels. She will also discuss the areas we should pay closer attention to in thinking about Chinese global influence. She will also talk about China’s international positioning on the Ukraine conflict.

About the speaker: Maria Repnikova is Assistant Professor in Global Communication at Georgia State University and the author of two books on Chinese media and politics. She is one of the leading global experts in China’s global communications and domestic media landscape. Her latest book published in February is an analysis of key theories and channels of Chinese soft power, including Confucius Institutes, education and training exchanges, and public diplomacy, drawing from her research on Chinese soft power in Africa. Previously, she was a Wilson Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson Center and director of the Center for Global Information Studies at Georgia State University.
