China’s Covid crisis: Is the worst behind us or a second wave imminent?

After the Chinese government in December dropped all Covid-restrictions the virus spread like wildfire – faster than many experts had predicted. Up to one billion people might have been infected already. Close to one million people might have died from or with Covid. But these are only rough estimates as the government doesn’t release ana reliable figures. Now, after the first wave has subsided some experts expect a second wave for spring.

About our speaker: Professor Benjamin Cowling joined the School of Public Health (SPH) at Hong Kong University in 2004. Prior to moving to Hong Kong, he graduated with a PhD in medical statistics at the University of Warwick (UK) in 2003 and spent a year as a postdoc at Imperial College London (UK). Professor Cowling has been the Head of the Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics since 2013.
