Correspondents should be aware that one of our colleagues was detained recently in Urumqi and that during his interrogation uniformed police officers repeatedly told him that in Xinjiang the normal reporting rules do not apply, and that we are required to register and request authorization to conduct interviews.
This clearly contradicts the State Council regulations governing our work issued in 2006 and made permanent in 2008. The FCCC will be seeking clarification of the situation from MoFA.
