News about the Chinese economy isn’t getting any better. The housing crisis is only getting
worse, consumers don’t spend as the government hoped for, and exports are still sluggish.
Furthermore, there seems to be no coherent strategy about how to solve the local
government debt problem. On December 5 th rating agency Moody’s downgraded China’s
credit from stable to negative.
Wang Tao will give an introduction to her new book “Making Sense of China’s Economy” and

serves as managing director, chief China economist and head of Asia economic research at
UBS in Hong Kong. From 1997 to 2006 Tao worked at the IMF in Washington D.C.
